Inkblot Of The Day (Thursday)

Ooops!  Totally forgot about dropping in that info about negative space.  That Which Haunts stated: it is essentially unused space.  Yes, that is the nutshell version.
Here is the ol' snippet from Wiki: the space around and between the subject(s) of an image. Negative space may be most evident when the space around a subject, and not the subject itself, forms an interesting or artistically relevant shape, and such space is occasionally used to artistic effect as the "real" subject of an image.

One of the images they used to illustrate was the popular black and white "A Goblet Or Two People Kissing" optical illusion.  I shall use an old blot and a drawing someone did for it for our own illustration.

As that person saw it, the image was there in the area without the ink BECAUSE of the area used by the ink.
Kind of a grim interpretation, but then that is why I love these things.  Sorry I didn't get to doodle on one of the deliciously wacky responses from yesterday's blot.

Here is today's:

  1. It's difficult for me to distinguish something here. There isn't anything that "appears" or just "pops-out" at me. I'll have to go with a mask of sorts. That's the only thing my mind can wrap around.

  2. hmm this is difficult.

upside down it looks like a panda sitting down that just put an apple on its head.

  3. I see the bust of a cowboy in the middle. Below him are two ducks kissing. On either side are children running away from him. At the top I see clouds.

  4. On the left and right side, midway up the page, I see two children facing away from eachother blowing bubbles. I can extrapolate from this that the other shapes are simply the drawn out and disfigured bubbles that they've already blown...

But it took a good thirty seconds to recognize that. For the most part, I couldn't come up with anything cohesive off of my inital impression, which with this image, was nothing. Interesting. :)

  6. Second blot. See a face first, then an elephant aerial. I don't think tree would've been my first guess when looking at the top one.

I like what you're saying about the white space though. It's like Daoism. A door cannot exist without an opening, a jar cannot exist without a hollow cavity, etc. Simply stating that something is not only what it is, but the empty space which gives it form and function.

  12. A man, his eyes being like ^^
He has muttonchops, a chinpatch, and a moustache.
He is bald except some hair on the sides, and his ears are weird :)

  16. Okay, this is going to sound weird, but it looks like a weird collection of mesas and other canyon-desert outcroppings arranged in a stonehenge-like circle, viewed from a 45 degree angle high above the ground.

That was my immediate and full impression.
